Direct Training

Good for basic manners, impulse control, leash walking, reactivity, and recall

Let me train your dog for you

How does it work?

Direct training is a great option for busy families who need help with training but are low on time. First, your dog works 1-on-1 with me to acquire skills that will help you achieve your training goals. After 3 sessions of trainer-dog sessions, I’ll teach you how to use your dog’s new knowledge and skills to maintain good behaviors at home. The direct training format will give your dog a head start on acquiring time-intensive skills, such as polite leash-walking and household manners before you begin working with them on it.

While owners do not need to be present during the training sessions, you do need to attend a transfer session once a week (or every three sessions), in which you will learn how and when to use the cues your dog has acquired over the past week. The transfer session is a crucial step in the training process to ensure that you and your dog can continue practicing the right behaviors at home. Like us, dogs are living organisms with independent thought so their behavior will change over time.

To ensure progress, there is a 3-week minimum for this program.

Each week includes:

3 one-hour sessions
…during which I work directly with your dog (owner presence not required)

& 1 one-hour transfer session
…during which I teach you how to maintain behaviors and continue your dog’s progress

FAQs

Yes! If you have the time and interest in training your dog yourself, I’d be delighted to help you with that process! Please see Coaching Sessions, which are also a more economical option if Direct Training sounds like too big a commitment.

Unfortunately Kuma Dog Training Puppy Boot Camp was discontinued January 2022. I recommend The Hound Haven in Santa Clara for puppy camp!
